KRIS BINGEN
IN THE PURSUIT OF COUP DE FOUNDRE

Kris, an emerging abstract artist based in Los Angeles, engages in a profound exploration of visual narratives that oscillate between the expressive and the celebratory. Her work deftly navigates the intricate interplay between feeling and investigation, foregrounding the universal beauty inherent in the human experience. With a practiced hand, she distills complex concepts into visual languages that conceal as much as they reveal, inviting the viewer into a dialectic of internal and external realities—who we are versus who we present to the world.

Kris’s creative trajectory began in response to the ennui of business burnout, which catalyzed a return to the world with the wide-eyed wonder of childhood. Rooted in a keen understanding of human anatomy, her initial forays into figurative sculpture found validation through tactile engagement with clay, under the tutelage of respected sculptors Suzanne Horwitz, Audry Cramblit, Simon Kogan, and Eric Stephenson. As a self-taught painter, Kris synthesizes these influences into a cohesive visual practice.

Her art is underpinned by an acute sensitivity to the human spirit, sharpened through her work with families in crisis and her own reflective introspections. This informs her interrogation of modern themes, particularly the paradoxes of transparency and social constructs. By juxtaposing simple lines, shapes, and colors against complex textures and layers, she navigates the delicate balance between the obvious and the hidden, the playful and the purposeful.

Kris’s oeuvre reflects a commitment to modernism, symbolism, and minimalism, often punctuated with a nod to the Bauhaus movement. Her sculptures and paintings frequently incorporate organic and recycled materials, weaving a seamless dialogue between form and concept that challenges and enriches the viewer’s perception of reality.
